Ban firework sales to stop yobs, says Manchester police chief

A top chief constable has called for an outright ban on the sale of fireworks in order to stop young people 'terrorising' communities. Greater Manchester Police's chief constable Ian Hopkins said he didn't want to come across as a 'party pooper', but that the law needed to be made stricter in order to combat anti-social behaviour. 'We need to restrict the sales to young people who think it is acceptable to go around and terrorise communities,' he told BBC Radio Manchester on Wednesday. 'The chief constable can say what he think is appropriate, but I think it's an overreaction. 'Nobody should be attacked with fireworks - I go back to what I was said about restricting the sales.'
