The voting process was disrupted and vote boxes were carted away from various polling places in Surulere Local Council of Lagos State yesterday, according to a report in the Guardian Nigeria daily. Around 10 am, some political thugs broke into voting places on Karounwin, Soyinka, and Jimoh Ojoku streets in the Surulere neighborhood of Itire. The same thing happened in the communities of Muyiwa Opaleye and Aguda, where voting was halted but resumed once security personnel restored order. Along with trying to steal some thumb-printed voting papers, they tore the voter list that was pasted on the walls by the polling places. It was noted that several voting places had no security staff present, which provided an opportunity for criminals to commit violence.
