“He was my first boyfriend,” Copeland told Elle in 2014. On Sunday, she tied the knot with longtime boyfriend Olu Evans at the Montage Hotel in Laguna Beach, California, her manager confirmed to Us Weekly. Evans popped the question to Copeland in August 2015 with a sparkly cushion-cut engagement ring with a diamond halo. The happy couple met at a club in 2004 while Evans was out with his cousin, actor Taye Diggs. In June 2015, Copeland made history when she became the American Ballet Theatre’s first black female principal dancer.
