Backseat of RCMP cruiser used to save man from drowning in Peace River


Two quick-thinking RCMP officers rescued a man from the Peace River Saturday morning using the backseat of their police cruiser which is designed to float. The man was spotted in the river in downtown Peace River around 9 a.m.Officers called at the man to get him to swim towards the shore but he was too disoriented to respond. The officers were able to pull the man to shore, where he was immediately treated and taken to hospital by EMS. The extent and nature of his injuries is not known but the man was able to thank the officers for saving him. Gratton says the reason why the man was in the river is still under investigation.
