After an argument, Lek decided to take Sam to her mother's house in Udon Thani because she felt betrayed. "He asked me to sign a marriage certificate with him for the benefit of Sam," Lek said. "The Thai Embassy in Cairo told me that he asked for his mum instead of his dad." Mr Thatree said Sam told diplomatic staff his father had burned his passport and family documents to stop him from returning to Thailand. "I believe the reason Sam didn't go to the Thai Embassy earlier is because he was still very young at that time," Mr Thatree said.
