Consider the following: last winter, four infants were sickened, two of whom tragically died after a loose correlation was made to a popular infant formula that all four had consumed. Comparisons were run and in neither situation did the bacteria match up with any bacteria found in the product-contact areas in the Sturgis plant. As it is, infant formula is very difficult to manufacture and to keep compliant with FDA standards. Mothers are now turning to charity groups, food banks, and hospitals to get the formula their children need. The Sturgis plant has been partially reopened and has resumed production of other items not linked to the original product.
