A baby boy held in the legs with his head pointing downwards eventually had his legs amputated as he suffered life-threatening bone fractures. The jury believed that the newborn was assaulted by his parents so badly he had to have both legs amputated. Tony Smith Junior was almost killed at the hands of Jody Simpson and Anthony Smith who carried out what the jury believed was a string of ‘violent assaults’ on their 41-day-old son. The infant was swung around by his ankles, which resulted in him having to have both legs amputated, leaving him with life-changing injuries. He also suffered life-threatening septicemia and a whole host of other infections after his bones were broken in eight places in 2014.
