The Border Security Force (BSF) of India apologised to its Bangladeshi counterpart on Saturday, a day after its members beat up a couple inside Bangladesh territory in the Borokhata area of Lalmonirhat. The BSF officials made the apology during a company commander-level flag meeting with the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in the morning. BGB Director of the unit Lt Col Golam Morshed, confirmed the matter to the Dhaka Tribune, and added that the Indian border security officials had accused the couple of smuggling. Torture and deaths due to gunfire by Border Security Force members along the Bangladesh border has long been a matter of concern among rights activists.
