The bus’s registration had been temporarily cancelled in line with the law, BRTA said in a letter on Tuesday after daylong student protests. The BRTA blamed reckless speed for the death of Abrar Ahmed Chowdhury, a student of the Bangladesh University of Professionals or BUP, at Nodda early in the morning. After the bus ran over and killed him, his peers took to the streets blocking traffic throughout the day. They vandalised several vehicles and torched a Suprobhat bus. Police seized the bus and arrested its driver after the crash.
