But like Mr Dale, Mr Ismayilov underlined the technology, which is far from commercial, "needs governmental support to accelerate its deployment". He also revealed that BP is "actively exploring opportunities" in the hydrogen sector in Australia but wouldn't reveal any details. Just as for rival Shell, solar power has already become a major area for BP in Australia, with 800 megawatts at various stages of development within the Lightsource BP venture. Meanwhile, Mr Ismayilov voiced strong support for the Woodside Petroleum-run Browse gas project to "unlock the next chapter of natural gas in Australia". BP has a stake in both the Browse gas field and in the North West Shelf venture which is earmarked to process the gas.
