Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury administered her oath at the parliament complex on Sunday. After taking oath, Rumeen told reporters that BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia had been kept in jail for over one-and-a-half years in a false and politically motivated case. On May 28, the Election Commission declared Rumeen, daughter of late Language Movement hero Oli Ahad, elected from the seat. The 50 seats kept reserved for women are distributed among political parties as per their number of seats in parliament.
