“We are observing the day with a heavy heart,” said Fakhrul who led the procession to Shaheed Minar. The party traditionally pays tributes to the Central Shaheed Minar in the first hour of International Mother Language Day on Feb 21, led by Khaleda, but this year it was different. Fakhrul who led his party colleagues to the Central Shaheed Minar said: “We’ve paid homage to the Language Movement martyrs on behalf of BNP and its chairperson Khaleda Zia.”Fakhrul and Standing Committee member Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain placed wreaths at the Shaheed Minar at 11am. Fakhrul led the party to Azimpur graveyard earlier in the day to say prayers at the graves of language movement martyrs. Thousands of leaders and activists then marched to the Shaheed Minar.
