The deceased has been identified as Mahbub Alam Shaheen, 55, the general secretary of BNP Sadar Upazila unit and a resident of Jhopgari area, according to locals. The attackers fled the scene, leaving him critically injured, they said. Later, Shaheen was taken to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College and Hospital where doctors declared him dead. Police visited the scene and the hospital. The reason behind the murder could not be known immediately and the killers were yet to be identified, Additional Superintendent of Police Sanatan Chakraborty told reporters.
