"The Prime Minister's intention was to hang onto power through fraudulent elections by sending BNP chief Khaleda Zia to jail. On February 8, 2018, Khaleda was sent to jail, convicted in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case. The BNP opposition arranged the program at the Jatiya Press Club, marking the 38th death anniversary of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman. Saying that conspiracies are being hatched to undermine the BNP, Mosharraf Hossain urged party loyalists and opposition activists to work in concert to raise public opinion against the government. "Against this background, we must hold up the ideals of our party founder Ziaur Rahman to restore democracy in the country."
