The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) paved the way for the election of its current national working president Nitin Nabin as the party president on Friday (January 16, 2026), announcing the schedule to ‘elect’ the party chief. Polling will be held “if needed” on January 20 and an official announcement of the name of the new national president will be made the same day, Mr. Laxman said. Mr. Nabin will succeed Health Minister J. P. Nadda as the BJP national president. BJP presidents have a tenure of three years. For the national president to be elected, a minimum of 50% of State units had to be constituted.
