The BJP also dominated the Nagar Palika Parishads and Nagar Panchayats, underscoring the trend of the ruling party doing well in civic polls. But the BJP won 27 of the 70 wards while the Samajwadi Party won 18, the BSP 5, the Congress 2 and the Independents 18. As during the last civic polls, the Congress refrained from fielding candidates in the two Nagar Panchayats in Amethi - Amethi Town and Musafirkhana - apparently to avert squabbling over tickets. The Adityanath government had recently created the Gauriganj Nagar Palika in the district, whose first civic election threw up a Samajwadi chairperson. The BJP wrested Amethi Town from the Samajwadis while an Independent became Musafirkhana chairperson.
