In the Maharashtra State Assembly elections held recently the BJP led alliance ( called Mahayuti) won a sweeping victory. Out of the 288 seat state legislature, the BJP won 132 seats, and its allies, the Shinde led Shiv Sena won 57, while the NCP led by Ajit Pawar won 41.
