BIR lifts closure order vs POGO service providerTHE Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has lifted the closure order against a Philippine offshore gaming operator (POGO) service provider after it promised to settle its P1.3 billion tax liabilities. According to a letter obtained by reporters on Tuesday, BIR Deputy Commissioner Armel Guballa issued the lifting of the closure order against Great Empire Gaming and Amusement Corp. (GEGAC) on September 27. “I approved recommendation of POGO Task Force [to lift the closure order] and [the] BIR received [an initial] payment of P250 million,” BIR Commissioner Caesar Dulay said in a message shared by Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez 3rd. Following the lifting of the closure order, GEGAC is now allowed to resume its operations. The service provider has offices at the Subic Freeport, Quezon City and Aseana City, Parañaque.
