Share TweetBy Jun RamirezThe Bureau of Immigration (BI) is asking the incoming 18th Congress to pass the long-delayed immigration law bill that will help it effectively carry out its mandate. The COA report stated that the government lost more than P273 million last year for allowing airline companies to depart with improperly documented passengers without paying the fines. Previously, the fine for such an offense was fixed at P50,000 per head which the airline companies refused to pay and even questioned its legality before the Department of Justice. Morente said stiffer law should be crafted to address the problem as well as other issues concerning the entry and stay of foreigner nationals as well as stiffer sanctions against erring officials and employees.
