(PTI) New Delhi, April 15: Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) celebrated Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar's 126th birth anniversary yesterday by renaming its library. Commission officials blame the university faculty for the mess, saying they admitted too many research students. Registrar Pramod Kumar acknowledged that the funds requirement for the non-Net scholarship had exceeded estimates as the teachers had taken in more research students than expected. In October 2015, the commission had decided to discontinue the non-NET scholarship scheme altogether, prompting an agitation led by JNU students. Sentiments among JNU students, already furious at the university's decision to scrap the additional "deprivation points" awarded during admission to research students from backward regions and marginalised sections, are running high against the authorities.
