BBMP Commissioner Manjunath N. Prasad said the BBMP as an immediate solution, was engaging pumps in waterlogged areas. In the long term, officials visited areas prone to inundation to identify stormwater drains that need to be repaired and encroachments. “We have identified 150 encroachments and are waiting for the rain to subside to start demolition work,” said Mr. Prasad. Some of the areas identified were HBR Layout, Basavangudi and Vrushabhavati Valley, he added. Regarding complaints from residents that repair of stormwater drains was taking place at a snail’s pace, Mr. Prasad said work on 200 km of SWD had started in May.
