more-inBengaluru: In a first, the Income Tax Department has sent out 859 prosecution notices to deductors of TDS in Karnataka and Goa for non-remittance and/or delay in remittances. Those in the list include Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), Bangalore University and Public Works Department of Karnataka. “The 859 notices cover TDS filings from financial year 2012-13,” Sibichen K. Mathew, Commissioner of Income Tax (TDS), Bengaluru said. Of the notices, 150 pertain to 2016-17 and were issued during the last one month, he added. The I-T department has already filed complaints in 48 cases in the Special Economic Offences Court, Bengaluru for which the department has obtained sanction for prosecution.
