BBC extends Met Office weather contract due to delays in switch to rival

This has forced the BBC to sign a new contract with the Met Office until March 2018, despite having publicly ditched the company. The Met Office has provided data for the BBC’s weather forecasts since the corporation’s first radio weather bulletin in November 1922. Most weather presenters on the BBC will have their contracts moved from the Met Office to the corporation. A spokesperson said: “As the UK’s national weather service, we will always ensure the UK public have the weather information they need so they can make informed decisions. We are continuing to provide the BBC with their weather services, having signed a contract out to March 2018.
