Azizulhasni relishing his 10th Asian victory

AZIZULHASNI Awang’s successful title defence in the men’s individual sprint at the Asian Track Cycling Championships on Monday was meaningful to the Pocket Rocketman for many reasons. The 31-year-old, who also won the keirin silver on Friday, underwent a finger surgery following a freak accident during training before the Asian meet and it affected his preparation. Japan’s Yuta Wakimoto, who won the keirin title, settled for silver while compatriot Tomohiro Fukaya completed the podium in the sprint. ‘I am very grateful as only four weeks ago I was involved in an accident which almost severed my finger,’ said Azizulhasni. ‘This win also means a lot to me as it is my 10th title at the Asian meet.I believe no rider from this continent has ever achieved this before.
