The Opposition Azimio has proposed the increase of county allocation funds from the equitable revenue from the current 15 to 35 per cent. He was speaking at a press conference Friday after holding a consultative meeting with Azimio coalition leadership in Mombasa. The Azimio chief added that the government should release county funds on time to enable county governors discharge their duties as prescribed in the Constitution. The government on May 26 released Sh29.6 billion to counties as equitable share of revenue following fresh threats of a shutdown from the council of governors. On June 10, the National Treasury also released Sh33 billion owed to counties to settle various pending bills.
