CAIRO – 7 April 2018: An Azhar medical convoy examined 827 patients and performed 14 surgeries on Thursday in Halayeb and Shalateen.The convoy, established by Al-Azhar in cooperation with the Ministry of Health, will stay in Halayeb and Shalateen until April 9. A number of preachers accompanied the convoy to increase people’s awareness of their religion.The convoy was sent to Halayeb and Shalateen upon instructions from Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Sheikh Ahmed al-Tayeb, based on the humanitarian and social role played by Al-Azhar in Egypt and abroad.Halayeb and Shalateen, or the Halayeb Triangle, is an area of land measuring 20,580 square kilometers, located at the Egyptian-Sudanese border on the Red Sea coast. It is part of the Red Sea governorate and consists of three major towns – Halayeb (which became a city in February 2014), Abou Ramad and Shalateen.
