JOHOR BARU: Parents have been urged to closely monitor their children’s social media activities in order to avoid them becoming victims of sexual abuse. About 600 participants attended the seminar that focused on issues that pose a threat through social media such as Daesh militant group, sexual abuse of children and others. On another matter, Ayub said 5,044 websites had been blocked from 2015 to October last year for violating the Multimedia and Communication Act 1998. The blocked websites include 4,277 sites that were offensive, contained pornography and security threat materials, while the others were related to gambling, prostitution, scams, piracy and others,” he said. Ayub advised the public to surf the web wisely, especially when coming across websites that posted viral news.
