Awami League welcomes BNP decision to join parliament

Five of the six BNP MPs-elect have taken oath of office, four of them on Monday. The four are Ukil Abdus Sattar from Brahmanbarhia-2 seat, Harun-ur-Rashid from Chanpainawabganj-3, Aminul Islam from Chanpainawabganj-2 and Mosharraf Hossain from Bogura-4. Zahidur Rahman from Thakurgaon-3 had taken oath earlier, but got expelled for moving ahead of the party’s decision. “The BNP MPs taking oath is a positive sign for democracy,” Abdur Rahman, a joint general secretary of the Awami League, told bdnews24.com later in the night. The BNP had earlier alleged that the ruling party pressured them to join parliament even though the opposition MPs-elect decided not to take oath after irregularities in election.
