The surprise omission of some heavyweight leaders dominated the discussions among the Awami League supporters who gathered outside party chief Sheikh Hasina’s Dhanmondi office during the handing of letters. The Awami League has chosen former secretary Monzur Hossain, who is chairman of the government-run Rupali Bank now, for Rahman’s Faridpur-1 seat. Deputy Leader of Parliament Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury is not running with the Awami League’s ticket this time due to her old age. Md Faridul Haque Khan MP from Jamalpur has failed to impress the party this time. Besides Arif Khan Joy, Chhabi Biswas and Iftiquar Uddin Talukder Pintu have lost the Awami League’s ticket in Netrakona.
