The ruling party decided on the candidates for the by-polls in a meeting of its Parliamentary Board chaired by its chief Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the Ganabhaban on Friday. The candidates will be able to submit nomination papers to the returning officers until Feb 14 while the deadline for withdrawing the nominations is Feb 23. The Election Commission will scrutinise the nomination papers on Feb 16. The Brahmanbarhia seat became vacant after the death of fisheries and livestock minister Muhammed Sayedul Hoque MP on Dec 16. Sangram, who is fighting the bypolls to this seat, is a former leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League, the ruling party’s student affiliate.
