Awami League instructs grassroots to be alert over Khaleda verdict

The ruling Awami League high command has instructed its district, upazila and union level leaders to be alert to thwart any untoward incident following the verdict of Zia Orphanage Trust graft case against BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia and her son Tarique Rahman on February 8. It also directed the grassroots leaders of the party and its affiliated organisations to make units comprising ward level leaders and activists to thwart BNP and Jamaat activists on streets. Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has already discussed the matter with all district-level leaders and sent them letters mentioning four-point instructions. Mohammad Iqbal Hossain Sabuj, general secretary of Awami League Gazipur district unit, said the party’s general secretary called him on Saturday evening and asked him to remain alert over possible anarchy by BNP-Jamaat activists over the February 8 verdict. The Awami League will also face BNP politically, especially in Dhaka and all preparations are complete to that end,” said a presidium member of Awami League preferring anonymity.
