At the party meeting in Chittagong's Panchlaish, Quader warned the party against accepting new members without checking out their background. Making a fervent appeal to end factionalism, Quader said: If Awami League ends up becoming its own enemy, nobody can save us. "The Chittagong unit stayed united during our troubled times, their unity showed us the way." Quader pitched for an Awami League that would become a 'smart, well organised modern party' under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina, as it prepares to face the next parliament election. The Awami League general secretary denied any pact between his party and the Hifazat-e Islam through granting recognition to degrees awarded by Qawmi madrassas.
