A man who allegedly prompted a district-wide arming of police in Canterbury is accused of two other firearms incidents. Jed Mathew Waghorn, a 25-year-old plasterer of no fixed abode, appeared in the Christchurch District Court on Monday, facing 18 charges over an 18-day period. The district wide arming of frontline Canterbury police came after up to nine gunshots were heard in Avonside about 7am on Friday. Waghorn allegedly pointed a firearm at a man on May 25, to "facilitate the flight of himself" after a burglary. Eight days later Waghorn allegedly stole a Toyota Caldina worth $4000.
