The award ceremony was part of a three-day international conference on corporate governance which was themed: Optimizing the Growth of SMEs while Globalizing Big Corporates: The Role of Good Corporate Governance. Professor Mervyn King, the Ambassador of African Corporate Governance Network delivering the keynote address warned that companies that do not follow good corporate governance always struggle to secure funding from the capital market. Prof. Mervyn King is noted for the King IV Report on Corporate Governance. In addition to the awards event, there was a conference and masterclass on corporate governance.
