Gorse Hill, in Killiney, the former home of solicitor Brian O’Donnell, sold for €9.5m, €1m above its asking price. In neighbouring Dalkey, Inniscorrig, a castellated mansion, sold for just under €8m, though it had been on the market since 2015 with an asking price of €10.5m. Jamie Douglas, of Hunters Estate Agent, says prices rose by 10% last year, but there were more homes for sale. “Supply increased by 17% in Killiney, and in Dalkey and Dun Laoghaire it was up an average of 20%, which is quite unusual,” says Douglas.
