Avatar became the biggest movie in the world without any previous pop-culture incarnations, something Avengers: Endgame simply can't replicate. Marvel and Disney very badly want Endgame to unseat Avatar as the biggest box-office success of all time. Avengers 4 ($2.744 billion) needs $44 million to catch up to Avatar ($2.788 billion) and I see no reason why it won't, though I don't care to prognosticate. Avatar Credit: Disney/FoxSure, Avatar didn't just succeed because of the movie's premise. As to which film I prefer: I'm going to have to go with Avatar largely because it was new and original.
