Avast carried out the most extensive IoT study ever, by using data from 83 million devices from around the world. Avast took on to carry out the largest IoT (Internet of Things) study ever, scanning 83 million devices located in 16 million homes from all around the world. IoT devices include smart TVs, connectivity dongles, smart plugs, smart fridges, smart coffee makers, security cameras, and anything else that can connect to the Internet. Only 4% of the IoT devices in North America are surveillance tools, while in South Asia, this percentage shoots up to 54%. 90% of all IoT devices are made by just 100 vendors, so there is a large number of common paths of exploitation affecting millions of devices.
