Authorities to crackdown on backdoor routes into Sabah for illegals

KOTA KINABALU: Immigration and other enforcement authorities have been told to investigate backdoor routes into Sabah and to seal it in a bid to stop illegal immigrants from coming in. Deputy Home Minister Datuk Azis Jamman (pic) said following a crackdown on illegal immigrants in various locations around the city from late Friday (Feb 7) to early Saturday (Feb 8), suspects nabbed have informed authorities that they entered via such illegal routes. "This is an act of treason and we want to unearth them, because they are helping illegal immigrants enter Sabah," Azis said. The Sepanggar MP said for 2020, a target has been set for the state Immigration Department to arrest at least 7, 000 illegal immigrants in Sabah. "We will not compromise on matters with regard to illegal immigrants, regardless of their race and religion," Azis said, adding that such operations will continue aggressively.
