In May, Austrian lawmakers approved a bill that outlaws wearing a full-face veil in public. The party’s campaign is strongly focused on curbing immigration and “growing Islamization.”The full-face veil ban comes at a time when the anti-Islamization Freedom Party (FPÖ) has also witnessed a surge in support, resulting in their presidential candidate nearly winning the election in December 2016. France became the first country to outlaw face veils in 2011.
