Australian support for same-sex marriage is falling, poll finds

The survey of 1,695 voters across the country was taken between Thursday and Sunday. If a majority of voters answers "yes," the government will push for a vote to make same-sex marriage legal in the parliament. Opposition Leader Bill Shorten said he is still confident that the "yes" vote will succeed, he told Sky News television on Monday. But his deputy, Tanya Plibersek, told the ABC on Sunday that she was "very nervous" about the result. Over the weekend, the marriage equality campaign was criticised after they sent text messages asking to vote "yes" to public without their approval, which was seen by the opponents as a heavy-handed approach.
