Austin Beutner, shown at a news conference in San Pedro in October, announced he was dropping out of the L.A. mayor’s race a month after the death of his daughter, 22-year-old Emily Beutner. Former Los Angeles schools Supt. Austin Beutner said Thursday that he is dropping out of the race for mayor, citing the recent death of his 22-year-old daughter.
