August Auto Sales Up A Bit, But Not Enough To Turn The Year Around


Forecasters expect a small – really small – increase in U.S. auto sales for August vs. the same month a year ago, after seven months of mostly small sales declines. Power and LMC Automotive expect unit sales of just over 1.5 million in August, an increase of just under 1 percent from August 2016. Through the end of July, U.S. auto sales for 2017 were down 2.9 percent, to about 9.9 million, according to the Automotive News Data Center. For the month of July, auto sales were down 6.9 percent, to about 1.4 million. Light trucks accounted for about 63 percent of total U.S. auto sales year to date.
