The Auditor-General has agreed to investigate KiwiBuild claims made by National that the Government spent public money outside the scope of Cabinet permission. It's part of a wider audit the government watchdog was already conducting into KiwiBuild, but in a letter to National's Judith Collins the office confirmed her claims warranted scrutiny. They specifically relate to KiwiBuild homes that the Government appears to have underwritten after they were already built. Six KiwiBuild homes in west Auckland that were among those Judith Collins raised questions about. The apartments had been offered for sale at the same price KiwiBuild later underwrote them for, Collins said.
