The dedicated sale of iconic pieces by Shaun Leane fetched more than $2.6 million, topping the sale’s $2 million high estimate, at Sotheby’s New York auction house on Monday. A total of 73.8% of items were sold by lot and 91.7% sold by vale, according to the auction house. The Corset, created for McQueen’s Autumn/Winter 1999-2000 ‘The Overlook’ Collection, is the only piece from Shaun Leane’s near-20-year collaboration with the late designer that is signed by both creators. Other works that far outstripped their pre-sale estimates include the Coiled Collar – featured on the cover of Björk’s 1997 “Homogenic” album—which commanded $243,750, totally smashing its $60,000 high estimate.
