Roadworks that were meant to have finished before the morning rush hour but which ran overtime left the northwestern motorway closed to southbound traffic. At 7.05am, the motorway opened, an hour after the NZTA first alerted motorists to the overrun roadworks. NZTA traffic cameras showed a huge backlog on the motorway at 7.50am, stretching well north of Westgate, and the agency said motorists were experiencing long delays. The motorway was closed southbound from the Hobsonville Rd on-ramp, Brigham Creek roundabout and from the SH18 link. The NZTA warned motorists to expect delays and allow extra time for their travel.
