Auckland Transport is set to hike public transport fares with bus, trains and ferries all affected. The cost changes will come into effect from January 29 and are as a result of a desire by Auckland Transport, a Council Controlled Organisation, to recoup 50 per cent of the cost of public transport from fares. We want to promote reducing congestion by making public transport fares attractive for people making longer journeys." Public transport in Auckland still represented "very good value for customers," he said.
