A candidate for an Auckland local board has stood down the upcoming local elections due to a "mistake" he made 20 years ago. "I made a mistake 20 years ago and have paid for it," Lavea said in a statement. "For the sake of Auckland Future and my fellow candidates I have decided not to contest the Whau Local Board seat in the Council elections. Auckland Future Coordinator Sue Wood said she thanks Lavea for the consideration he has shown to the Auckland Future team.
