Auckland night club Hype Bar falls foul with authoritiesIMOGEN NEALE/STUFF Hype Bar is facing stiff competition in renewing its liquor licence. Fighting, alcohol stockpiling and staffing failures have authorities opposing an Auckland city bar's ability to sell booze. Central city hip hop club Hype Bar opened on Elliot St in July last year, recently celebrating its first birthday. Auckland Council alcohol licensing inspector Mark O'Connor and police are both opposed to the renewal of the club's on-license. Hype Club is owned by Auckland resident Loretta Zhang who also owns Club Kong in downtown Auckland.
