The brass numbers on mailboxes are going missing in parts of Auckland. Brass numbers, plates, plaques saying “no junk mail”, brass surrounds and circles for newspapers have all been reported missing. According to the New Zealand Association of Metal Recyclers, under-reporting of metal theft is a huge problem. The group works with police to fight the problem of metal theft and advises metal recyclers about stolen items to look out for. Unless people are reporting them stolen, metal recyclers won’t know to look out for it.”
