When Darrell Poole first noticed gurgling sounds and cramping coming from his intestine, he thought he had a parasite. He assumed he had contracted giardiasis​, an infection caused by the giardia bug found in fresh, untreated water. But, just days before Christmas 2019, a colonoscopy revealed a much more sinister reason for the symptoms – “a rare cancer on top of a rare cancer” in his colon called a neuroendocrine​ tumour with a BRAF mutation.
